That One Time I took a Graffiti Workshop in Brooklyn, NY!
I believe when God bestows a gift, he assigns it with a journey. Art and people are my journey.
In 2023 I had the opportunity to take a wonderful workshop with Gabe from Graff Tours in Brooklyn, New York and It was sooooo much FUN!
Aren't we all familiar with seeing markings on buildings in public spaces? Nonetheless, some people don't get graffiti and street art, and hopefully, this post changes your view of the markings on the wall.
My understanding of of street art was expanded while attending art school in the Seattle, WA area. Known for its grungy street art, Seattle is where I gained respect for the urban art form and its history and culture.
that marries the need to communicate and be heard. Graffiti is now throughout urban downtowns across America giving boring brick buildings new life with explosive murals.
and paying homage to hometown heroes. Street art has a silent political voice and gives a new meaning to speaking your mind.
Gabe Schoenberg founder of Graff Tours and an NYU art grad saw the value in his love and created a place to share it with this workshop! It's a perfect blend of historical and technical education of NY graffiti.
This experience begins with a tour of beautifully spray-painted buildings showcasing the best street art murals, followed by an interactive hands-on tutorial.
The painting above was created by my travel group. During our workshop we learned to design and draw with spray paint but cooler than that we created our own "tags" and a group tag, "The Traveling 5".
I'm so happy God chose Gabe to fall in love with both Graffiti and Hip Hop!
If you find yourself in Brooklyn, check this tour/workshop out and let me know what you think.
My journey of "already doing what I was created to do" connects me to the places, art and people I was destined to meet.
I hope Pen Sessions Blog is a part of your journey in some way.
