Being Chosen to Counsel ✨ Power & Strength
THE IMPORTANT CONNECTION
The importance of mental health and how we view ourselves is vital. I've found therapy and God to be great tools for understanding how to change perspective.
My journey to Twenty-Seven|27 was created from a decision I had no clue would prepare me for God's vision and mission to help design homes that connect mind, body and soul.
This post is near and dear to my heart because therapy taught me more about myself as God affirmed my identity in his will. The two together helped ground me as a a designer and gave me direction.
THE FOUNDATION OF STRENGTH
Newly built houses appear perfect with freshly poured driveways and newly completed landscape, Truth be told, its foundation, framing and drywall are the true unseen greatness of a new property.
The same can be said for the power of healing and the foundation of God with the framework of great community therapists. Professionals who help guide your feelings, thoughts, choices and actions that lead to building a new you.
I advocate for therapy and the clarity it can provide in managing life. I'm always happy to share my experience that taught me to manage an intentional life with purpose. My life was transformed with my first encounter as a mom of younger children in a 10-year marriage learning to survive a busy life. I owe my breakthrough to a wonderful counsellor who helped me understand my childhood and family dynamics.
Working together blessed me by promoting my growth which helped me to move differently in the world. She afforded me the chance to view life with a new perspective.
I began my first session simply wanting my life “fixed” and instead, she helped me identify myself as a MIDDLE CHILD and my “perfect order” per textbook middle child life, lol.
Those sessions nurtured me as a woman, mother, wife, friend & daughter and allowed me to truly experience life around me rather than feeling unconsciously stuck.
My early years of therapy were wealthy deposits into a life I had no clue I would need with being a military spouse. However, it gave me the tools I needed to relocate repeatedly to raise children during long deployments and design an intentional home that would be a refuge for many in my situation.
THE INTERSECTION OF POWER & STRENGTH
POWER: The Capacity or Ability to Direct or Influence the Behaviour
In early 2021 I contacted Janine Piernas LMFT, in Temecula, CA and my life was better for it! I needed to revisit the tools I learned in my early years for a refresher.
The funny thing is, I started with couples therapy, but I eventually ended couples and started individual sessions. I like to think God sweetly requested my single presence and he chose Janine to be the sweet, stern soul to guide me with her passion for therapy.
I'm grateful for her professionalism and dedication to helping me find myself in a season of change. Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with her on her journey as a LFMT and thank her for her commitment to our community.
Janine’s gift of compassion and listening in combination with insightful advice to help navigate feelings was a part of her long before she turned her gift into a career.
Her vast experience includes social work and, working with practices throughout Southern California and now owns her private practice. She’s a wife and mother of three who understands life’s obstacles and prides herself on putting the quality of the client before the quantity.
She quotes, “Therapy with me is easy. That means show up as you are”. Piernas Therapy offers in-person and virtual sessions to individuals and couples, and couples workshops to teach tools in a class format for those not quite ready for couples therapy or short on session time.
Janine’s help in the community doesn’t stop with her clients.
She offers Business Coaching to other LMFT therapists helping them start their private practice with one-on-one support, help with website set-up, copywriting assistance, expert decision making and in-person support.
Being a busy mom juggling kids, wife, friend and professional, Janine is the perfect reflection of power, she's soft but stern, Empathic and Gentle, but Direct and Truthful,
She loves helping clients have ah-ha moments that flip a switch and think differently. She works well with couples and individuals to develop their growth.
She encourages Black, Asian & Latino communities to feel comfortable getting tools to help muddle through the intricate details of life.

STRENGTH: The Capacity of an Object or Substance to withstand Great Force or Pressure.
The word strength takes on a new meaning when describing military service.
It is a family affair and the strains of deployment and the lonely days attached to it can take a toll on everyone. The flip side of the hard moments is the lasting friendships cultivated through adversity.
Anthonette Nelson and her family were my flip side in 2010 in Bremerton, WA.
We created a bond over
adapting to the West Coast and being boy moms. When we talk we lovingly go back and forth over who was the saving grace during such a difficult time of that duty station.
Her family was genuine & loving with a heart for God. They were our family away from family. Back then her titles were mom, wife and senior college student.
Since then, Anthonette added important letters to her name, LCSW, a Master's Degree in Psychology and 3 more beautiful babies to make a family of 6. Her family relocated back to her hometown in southern Florida where is a full-time therapist.
In 2017 she found her calling in therapy while working in the juvenile system for boys. Working with Black boys and seeing the effects of generational trauma made her want to do more, more for her community, and hometown.
Her therapeutic style is asking questions and getting people to think differently.
"Antnonette says, "There's not a right or wrong way, just improving, reflecting and processing....that's the real work".
Anthonette's compassion for people is unmatchable, during our time in Bremerton, I watched her be a building block for her husband encouraging his career and staying positive. She is the definition of strength, not easily unravelled and determined.
Her remedy for this is BALANCE and understanding life isn’t one way. She permits herself to be full of strength sometimes and sometimes not. However, on the days she's not, she takes the advice she gives her clients, checking in with herself and being mindful and intentional.
I love that she practices what she preaches and her love of what she does is her motivating force to make the balance work.
I admire that Anthonnette's determination for excellence doesn't replace her trusting God over her understanding. Watching her over the years has proved to me that God is always present and always has his will in mind. That will for Anthonnette is working in the quilt of healing which truly starts at home and is rippled through her work.
If you are in Florida and looking to connect to a therapist or Mindset Coach who offers a safe and judgement-free space to unpack and unlearn the thoughts and feelings that are not serving you. Contact Anthonnette today to start the work.
I am ecstatic about highlighting Janine & Anthonette and their gift to our community is the ULTIMATE HEALING POWER.
THE STRENGTH TO START
The old saying is, "When you know better, you do better", however, there is POWER doing the work to navigate life.
If you are reading this I want you to know you have POWER. You activate your very own healing power when you allow the work of therapy to help you find the right tools. I promise that doing the work will offer you endless results. I'm forever grateful for taking a chance 16 years ago.
